You’ve been preparing for a long time, and so have we. In fact, our engineering team began prepping as soon as Black Friday and Cyber Monday were over last year. We assessed our performance on those two sending days at every layer of the infrastructure, and then began to optimize. The posts on this blog typically cover new platform features, apps and offerings, the things you touch and feel every time you use the app. But there’s so much more that goes into the platform that’s entirely behind the scenes. So this time, we’re offering a sneak peek under the hood. Here are six areas where we’ve made significant improvements in the last twelve months to help you maximize success on the busiest shopping days of the year. 1. NEW Tracking Service We recently updated all Bronto sites to a new tracking service, which means that during peak volumes and heavy sending days, such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, reports and metrics will update much more quickly. In addition to better UI performance, this change also improves our sending throughput. In short, we can process data faster, which means you can see it faster, and your emails will send more rapidly. 2. NEW Contact Import We have completely rewritten the functionality that lets you bulk import contacts into the Bronto Marketing Platform (in the application itself; not via the API). This process is now 8-10x faster! NOTE: If you’re planning to import contacts anytime soon, be sure to complete your import several days ahead of Black Friday, or postpone it until after Cyber Monday. This will free up resources for more efficient sending. 3. NEW Hardware We have made some major updates to our hardware in the data center. This includes adding hardware to allow for greater scale, as well as replacing older hardware to create more speed and efficiency. 4. NEW Network Architecture We have completely redesigned and recreated our network architecture in the data center, including all of the cabling and switches, and all hardware and software. This again gives us greater scale and speed, and increases redundancy in case of hardware failure. It’s a new day! 5. NEW Software We have made a number of infrastructure software updates for better security, faster processing and more features for us so we can do more on your behalf. This includes a complete revamp of our internal virtual machine infrastructure, new hypervisors, new automation code, new storage backend and infrastructure improvements that reduce the need for maintenance windows. 6. Improved Workflow Processing We can now more quickly evaluate campaign workflows within the Workflow Automation module and reduce delays. This should create more efficiency and speed.
