It’s awards season, and we’ve been busy racking up recognition from some of the most prestigious award organizations around. And who’s the latest Bronto to be singled out for their accomplishments? It’s none other than Oracle + Bronto General Manager Carolyn Sparano.

We’re excited to announce that Sparano won Silver in this year’s Golden Bridge Awards® for Female Executive of the Year. Her latest award follows a Gold win in 2016 for Female Executive of the Year in the 13th Annual Stevie® Awards for Women in Business.

The annual Golden Bridge Awards® honor the world’s best in organizational performance, innovations, products and services, executives and management teams, women in business and other categories from every major industry in the world. Organizations from all over the world are considered for Golden Bridge Awards®, including public and private, for-profit and non-profit, from start-up to enterprise.

“I’m thrilled to be named a winner by the Golden Bridge Awards® for Female Executive of the Year. The technology sector needs more women in leadership positions, and I’ll continue to do everything I can to set a positive example,” says Sparano.

A Story of Leadership

Bronto was acquired by NetSuite in 2015 and subsequently by Oracle in 2016. And not long before the Oracle acquisition, founders Joe Colopy and Chaz Felix left the company, adding an additional layer of complexity. We needed a strong leader to guide the company through such a challenging period – enter Sparano.

To ramp up for the General Manager role, Sparano quickly learned the complexities of the engineering, operations and marketing lines of our business. A former vice president of our professional services team with 10 years of leadership at the company, Sparano quickly made the position her own – all while helping to increase our success and support our unique, employee-focused culture.

As General Manager, Sparano continued Bronto’s tradition of transparency from the start, carrying on with regular company-wide “all hands” meetings to share her vision for the company’s success and keep everyone updated on plans for future growth and new product roadmaps. Why? She believes that when employees understand the organization’s goals, they can make decisions every day that support them.

A Global Voice

Leading a company with offices around the world requires extra communication efforts. To ensure our international offices remain connected and all employees’ voices are heard, Carolyn hosts separate Q&A sessions in each region after the airing of our recorded quarterly meetings.

She’s also a powerful advocate for women in business and engineering. On International Women’s Day, she served on a Durham, N.C. “Women Take No Bull” panel and was a sponsor of NetSuite’s Women in NetSuite (WIN) program, now Oracle Women in Leadership (OWL).

Sparano says one of her proudest moments occurred during a WIN event at our London office when several male colleagues were so inspired by her talk that they went on to voice their support and acknowledge the challenges women face in the workplace. Ultimately, she sees her support of women in the workplace as part of a broader effort to promote equality of all those underrepresented in the business and technology sectors.
