BrontoFire: Live – Welcome Messages

Kimberly Snyder

Don’t underestimate the power of welcoming new subscribers to your email marketing efforts with a very clean, clear and convincing Welcome Message.

Can’t view the video? Try viewing it on YouTube.

In this month’s BrontoFire, DJ and I analyze welcome emails from the following big-name online retailers: NewEgg, Sierra Trading Post, Coach and John Deere. This simple yet very compelling message facilitates an immediate relationship with your consumers. Subscribers like to be recognized, thanked and embraced by a brand.

View our lively discussion on Welcome Messages today.

Next month, we’ll highlight online retailers implementing Preheaders.

  • Good job guys! This is a great segment, really hits home on a number of currently hot topics.

  • I guess you won’t be writing John Deere a “Dear John” anytime soon 😉

  • Coach has been using that exact same welcome for three years now. Sad. 🙁

I bet it still has the 2005 copyright notice at the bottom of it, which means they haven’t even looked at it since then.

  • Great video post, agree with you on the point of NewEgg needing to shorten their From name to just the brand.

Have you received additional communications since then? I have not and wondered whether Id be bombarded with all sorts of weekly deals but guess next steps or communications would/should be telling me to set up my account preferences …

  • @Matt – thanks for the positive feedback. I feel like *all* topics in email marketing are hot topics, right?

@Linda – John Deere was one of the better ones! (but I appreciate your humor, as always).

@Chad – I’d love to see some of their welcome messages from 2005. I see a “fun” blog post brewing on refreshing content every…uh…3 years (at least?)

@Kelly – Good question re Since their welcome message I’ve received the following emails (opened zero):

*April 24 (3 days after sign up and welcome message)
    *May 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 28, 30
    *June 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 18, 24

There does not seem to be any pattern. Interesting that I’ve now received 18 emails from Newegg (including Welcome Message) and have only opened the first one. Food for thought.

To all: Kimberly and I just filmed the July and August segments. I know that I’m biased, but I think you’ll enjoy – both content, banter, and “humor.”
