The smell of burning rubber, gas fumes and competition surrounded us as we entered the track. After a brief training overview, we strapped on our helmets and situated ourselves in the 6.5 HP karts. Gripping the steering wheel, we anxiously awaited the green light. We were off! Twisting and turning through the tight indoor course, we passed several of our peers and overlapped a few. It was a hot track!
The go-karting was sponsored by the American Marketing Association’s Triangle Chapter. My co-worker Bryce Roberts is a member and I got to be his plus one to represent Oracle + Bronto at this event. The AMA is an organization that connects marketers in Raleigh-Durham and it boasts more than 500 members. Oracle + Bronto is a Platinum Sponsor of AMA Triangle.
The partnership includes the Marketing Automation Link and Think which meets at the Oracle’s American Tobacco Campus location on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. Attendees discuss modern marketing strategies and tactics that relate to marketing automation and demand generation. Please view the group here and consider attending a session if you’d like to sharpen your revenue marketing skills!
But back to the go-karting.
The event was held at Rush Hour Karting in Garner. We had the whole place to ourselves for three hours. Bryce and I strategized the entire evening. First, eat dinner from 5 to 5:15 p.m. Second, participate in every race thereafter. The two of us ended up go-karting until 9 p.m.
Each eight-minute heat was based on the fastest lap time, which determined the qualifying positions for the championship race. We were in. This was it! What we worked hard to accomplish throughout the night came down to this one race, the most important race of the night. My adrenaline was pumping as the engine rumbled, my whole body shaking from the vibration. I looked over my shoulder at Bryce who was sitting second on the grid — ready to overtake me once the light flashed from yellow to green. I was not going to let that happen. Battling first and second place the entire time, we zoomed past the finish line as the checkered flag waved energetically, finishing the same way we started. It was a glorious victory for Oracle + Bronto.
Over a couple of beers that night, we decide that go-karting should be our next quarterly marketing activity. We will be back!
