unsub-page-option-c-winnerA few weeks ago, I asked you to vote on what you believe is the best unsubscribe landing page. The results have been tallied and we have a winnerOption C was chosen by 50% of you as the best unsubscribe landing page. Why did it win? Here are a few snippets of reasons people voted for it:

  • “Very straightforward”
  • “Fast and easy”
  • “Short, simple, clear, user-friendly”

In addition, Option D received 30% of the vote and received the following feedback:

  • “Fields and lists are quite straightforward”
  • “It’s nice they give people a chance to profile themselves so the sender can better target”
  • “It provides very clear instructions on how to unsubscribe from all or single lists”

Key takeaways:

  1. Make the unsubscribe language clear, concise and user-friendly.
  2. Allow the subscriber to unsubscribe in one click and manage their user preferences in one place.
  3. Set explicit expectations around next steps -
    • How long will it take to confirm my unsubscribe?
    • Will I be receiving any additional email from you?, etc.
  4. Promote benefits of signing up for other newsletters as a cross-sell opportunity.
  5. Provide opt-down opportunities around frequency and subscriptions.
  6. Periodically evaluate the landing page to optimize the user experience and increase the opportunity to keep subscribers.

There is no standard unsubscribe landing page that works for every marketer. You should customize based on your subscriber profile and continuously test to find that optimal mix for your business.
