BrontoFire: Live - Call to Action

Creating a call-to-action (CTA) seems like a simple enough task, but too often many email marketers fall short on this critical piece of their email message content. A simple ‘click here’ or linked image is not enough – you need to entice your readers by selling them on how and why they should click, and by making your intended action both easy to find and easy to act on.

In the latest episode of BrontoFire, DJ and I dissect messages from major online retailers Linens-N-Things, Drugstore.com, Zappos and DSW. You may be surprised to see who gets it right, and who misses the mark.

Rules for Creating a Clear Call-to-Action:

1. Your most important CTA should be located above the fold.
2. Consider including your CTA in your preheader and/or subject line.
3. Avoid too many CTAs.
4. Provide multiple ways (formats) of interacting with your CTA.
