Industry Best Practices Part III: Bronto’s Sherpas

June 25th, 2007 by Adam Covati

In the final blog post of this series, I want to take a look at one of the most crucial parts of how Bronto helps to drive email Best Practices. This is, of course, our Client Services group; we call them the Sherpas. Sherpas work with our customers to help them be the best email marketers they can be.

One of the important things our Sherpas do is to keep you, our customers, informed of industry best practices. You have a lot to do and keeping up with changing email trends may not be top of mind, but that’s what they’re here for. The Sherpas can work with you - examining how you’re sending email, how you’re managing lists - and help you do it better.

This is a very interactive process; the Sherpas expertise coupled with a willingness to implement best practices can lead to tremendous results. It all starts with scheduling an Account Optimization with your Lead Sherpa. After investigating the nooks and crannies of your email marketing, your Sherpa will put together an action plan which naturally leads into an ongoing relationship. Recommendations can range from changing link placement to sending time to subject lines. The Sherpas have been through it all and truly serve as Bronto’s most valuable asset. If you are interested in more specifics about how we work with our customers, check out our customer success webcasts.

I look forward to seeing many more of you in those webcasts in the upcoming months. If you have any questions about Industry Best Practices, feel free to post a comment, or get in touch with a Sherpa today!

Bronto’s Message Tracking Policy Resumes on July 15

June 25th, 2007 by Bronto Software

On July 15, Bronto is resuming its policy of retaining detailed tracking data for 12 months. While this policy has been in effect for several years, it was temporarily paused approximately one year ago. Our policy is to track and store all the activity from the delivery of a message, including opens, click-throughs, etc., for 12 months after it is sent. After 12 months, we stop tracking the activity from a message and the detailed activity remains rolled-up in the aggregate totals. Activity detail at the per-contact level is then removed and no longer available. In our experience, we have found that most of the contact’s activity happens within days after sending a message and believe a 12 month window for capturing the full effect of a message exceeds customer needs.

The resumption of this policy will not affect the top-level delivery statistics for your message. For example, you will still know that 20% of your recipients opened your message from May 2006 and be able to see the click-through rates for each link on your message. However, you will not be able to see the specific contacts that opened the message nor use segments that are based on the activity from that message.

If you are interested in keeping this detailed information for messages sent prior to July 2006, you can do a couple things. You can generate and download a detailed report listing all activity for a given delivery or add contacts to a list from the same page.

Of course, if you have any questions about this policy or simply need a refresher, feel free to contact the client services team using the Support link in your Bronto account or 919-226-9363 ext 2.
