Preview of New Template Features

October 26th, 2006 by Bronto Software

We’re close to releasing a new set of enhancements that will bring more flexibility to template-based messages. Click on the thumbnails below to preview screenshots of the new features:

The Edit Tab

We’ve added a feature that enables you to duplicate, delete, and re-order entire sections of content in your templates.

Most of the Bronto’s pre-made templates will inherit this functionality. Also, note that you will be able to build this functionality into your custom templates.

Otherwise, the Edit Tab works exactly the same as the current template editor - click the
area you wish to edit and supply your content in the pop-up box.

The Outline Tab

The Outline Tab provides a simplified means to edit template content by listing all of your template blocks. Edit a block by clicking the appropriate link and supplying your content.

The Preview Tab

The Preview Tab provides a preview of your message. You can easily toggle between the three tabs to ensure that edits create the intended finished result.

Lastly, note that these changes will not adversely affect any of your existing templates - they will work as usual. However, if you would like to add repeatable sections to your custom templates, then you will need to add a few lines of code.

These features are still a week or two away from being moved into
production. We’ll post another update with more screen shots and a
link to documentation soon.

Let us know if you have any questions or feedback in the meantime.

Have to admit I was just getting used to templates in the previous Bronto version. Can you direct me to a tutorial or help section on templates for new version?

    Thanks for the comment, Bob.

Just to clarify, the new implementation will be VERY similar to the existing implementation, only with a number of optional enhancements that you can use if you wish.

We’re in the process of putting together documentation for the updated version. It will be available soon.

Am I correct in my assumption that this will not break existing templates?

You are correct, Njal. These changes will not affect existing templates. Existing custom templates will work as usual.

However, if you would like to add repeatable sections to your custom templates, then you will need to add a few lines of code.

It is easy to do. We’ll have the documentation available very soon…
